Oh Silly Maddox

Most of you know that Maddox is a smart and clever little man. From birth you could tell his mind is ALWAYS working. As an infant he was always so serious and simply observed all the things around him. He was rarely content playing because he always wanted something more or different or would get frustrated if he couldn't figure something out. To this day he is very observant and remembers EVERYTHING (no joke. This kid remembers things from when he was a year old. We are trying to teach Paxton how to drink out of a sippy cup and Maddox pointed out at the store which cup he used to learn how to drink out of a cup....most of the time these long term memories kind of creep me out...I mean for goodness sake he is only 3 years old, but he constantly blows my mind!! His amazing memory makes it VERY difficult to distract him from things. He is so determined and does not forget what he was attempting to do or get into!)
While I am challenged by him on a daily basis, I love to watch and listen to him learn and observe!

Fun things he has done/said lately:

Maddox picked up a toy phone and said "Daddy, I'm going to call Jesus and see if He wants to come over for dinner" (I love that he is gaining a longing for Jesus)

While riding in the car with Daddy, Maddox said "Hey Daddy, I have a drum set! Do you want a drum set? It is pretend so you will have to put it together in your mind. Here Daddy, here are the instructions!!" (Seriously gotta love this kid)

While running errands with me, Maddox looked across the road and noticed that back corner of his school from the highway (keep in mind, we have NEVER been to the back of his school so he would have to assume what the back would look like) and he exclaimed "Look Mommy, there is my school way over there" (Sure enough, you could see the back corner of his school building that I had never noticed that you could see from the highway).

The other evening Maddox and Brad were able to go see Monster Trucks (Maddox LOVED everything about this fun outing with daddy) and the parking lot was very full. Brad could tell that Maddox was looking around and observing every small detail about that parking lot. When it was time to leave (almost 3 hours later), Brad mentioned to Maddox that he wasn't sure where he had parked. Maddox quickly responded "Don't worry Daddy, we are over there by the Texas Tech sign" (Sure enough, that was exactly where they had parked their car in that very full parking lot!)

Now this kid keeps me on my toes and challenges me every single day, but at the end of the day, there is no other way I would like to be challenged and I pray that the Lord gives me all the tools and wisdom I need to guide this smart, clever and spirited little boy and I pray I guide him to become the man the Lord created him to be!!

Boys will be Boys

Boys will be boys....and in our house, boys LOVE cars. Cars, motorcycles, firetrucks, bicycles...anything that moves and especially  things that move fast! These precious boys love cars so much they love all the PARTS that go together to make a car, especially if it will make it louder and faster!!

I am very outnumbered here in my ManHouse and it all honesty, I love it!

Maddox was very excited when the JEGS catalog came in the mail yesterday. He couldn't wait to "read" it!

Paxton's first ride in the wagon. He squeeled the entire time

Maddox "fixing" his bike. I'm sure to make it go faster!

Sharing is Caring

Sharing....a common lesson we are teaching in our household. We teach that we do not like it when someone takes our toys/cup/food or anything away and we should not do those things to anyone else. We teach that it is kind to share and there are consequences if we do not. We are learning that not every thing is "mine" and it really is a lot of fun to play together and share our things, especially if we want others to play and share with us.
While I love to see my boys learn and listen to what we attempt to teach, I believe my boys are taking this sharing lesson a little too far and as they have recently decided to share a very nasty upper respiratory virus. Nice. Thanks boys for listening so well to Momma, but this is one time there is an exception to the rule!

I guess the good news is if the boys are going to be sick with this crud, lets do it at the same time and everyone get past it together so hopefully we won't continue to share the love germs!

Stages

Raising kids is fun and very challenging, especially when their name is spelled M-A-D-D-O-X..haha..I kid, I kid, well, sort of. The stage we are currently in is best summed up as the stage of constant negotiation. When you have a strong willed and super smart kid on your hands, like we do, he knows WAY more than he should and is constantly trying to negotiate HIS way or how he best sees fit. It does not matter what is being asked of him, he will immediately argue and desire a different way to achieve said task. I suppose a lot of  this came from my personality...my parents used to tell me I could "argue the paint off a wall." Apparently, I too liked to argue and I suppose I turned out alright....whew, it sure can be exhausting though (sorry mom and dad for all the unneeded arguing I initiated.)
While the constant negotiating and arguing is exhausting, this stage in Maddox's life is also HILARIOUS!! When Maddox was at "school" this week, they were playing in the gym. His teacher noticed him riding a scooter and he stopped for a good while. She was worried something was wrong so she went over to him and asked him if he was okay. He responded in a matter of fact manner and said "Um yeah, I'm at a stop light" HAHAHAH...smarty pants!! I love how smart and observant he is.

My current prayer as I press forward on this journey of parenthood with two precious and boys is that I can learn to mold their strong and often challenging will without crushing their curious, amusing and ambitious spirits!!

Happy 9 Months

Happy 9 Months Paxton James

What are you up to these days?

-size 4 diaper
-wearing size 12 month clothes
You are crawling ALL over the place. You can crawl from the living room to your brother's bedroom in about 20 seconds...you are fast and you love the freedom. We you crawl for something specific, you make a really funny "happy" sound until you reach your destination. While you are enjoying your four on the floor mobility, you are anxious to start walking and you are trying so hard to pull yourself up on anything or anyone (including your brother..and by the way Maddox is NOT a fan of you trying to "get" him when you crawl and try to pull up on him)

You have started making this really funny, deep, almost scary growling sound.

You LOVE to eat solids and LOVE to be able to feed yourself finger foods. If I try to put something small in your mouth for you, you move my hand and take the food from me to do yourself. You have yet to reject anything I have fed you and last night you tried chicken for the first time and you seemed to enjoy it.

You are a wonderful sleeper (most of the time); however, you still LOVE to hibernate nap at GiGi's house. Seriously, when you nap over there you usually nap for more than 3 hours at a time! You sleep through the night like a champ and go down easily! While Maddox loves to sleep with Raffie, it seems your "lovie" is an extra pacifier. You can be restless until you have an extra paci in your hand, then you fall fast asleep. I am trying to replace your lovie with something else because someday we will have to get rid of the paci's and I would hate to take your paci and your lovie away at the same time...now that would be just plain mean :)

I think you officially have your first tooth (middle bottom)! I say "I think" because I am not sure if I have seen it, but I think I can feel it and it looked like you made a tooth mark on one of your soft toys. I know you have been working on those two bottom teeth for a few weeks now, so it would be great if one of them has finally broken the skin!

You are super easy to take out to dinner with us. You love to sit up in a high chair and join in "conversation" with us while you much down on some crackers or cheerios. You will sit there for a very long time without getting impatient!

You love to be held and cuddled unless your brother is doing something that you think would be fun to join in with! By the way, you laugh the hardest when you are playing with Maddox. He can do anything and you will belly laugh for a very long time. I love it!

Sweet P just days after he was born

Oh sweet Paxton James. It is hard to believe that you are already 9 months old. You have been out in the world for as long as I carried you in my belly. You are growing up so fast. You are such a joy and a blessing in all of our lives! We love you sweet P!!

Happy 3rd Birthday Maddox

Happy Birthday Maddox!! Sweet Maddox boy you turned 3 on January 8th! Sheesh, time sure has gone quickly. I cannot believe how fast this past year has gone by and how big you are getting everyday! You are SO smart, clever and funny!! You make me laugh on a daily basis and your little brother thinks you are hilarious!! You have such a sweet spirit about you and you can be so kind and loving if the mood fits you! I guess that is one of the challenges we are facing these days as we enter into your 4th year of life....you are very aware of your emotions and don't always know the proper way to express them. You are a ball of energy and a boundary pusher! You are still very strong willed, but lately that will has helped you discover ways to be independent...you are now able to undress and dress yourself (although the shirt on and off is still a little difficult, you are very persistent). You love to have someone play with you and would much prefer to have company than to be alone! You are learning that your little brother really likes YOUR toys; thus we are learning to share and to be kind even when we are annoyed! You are so sweet to Paxton and you try so hard to make him happy if he is upset.
This past year you have grown UP so much....at your last birthday you were wearing size 2T clothes and now you need mostly 4T for length! You have also grown up in the sense of maturity. You listen well (most of the time) follow directions well...although you often get distracted, you have good intentions most of the time, and you can carry on full conversations like a grown up. Sometimes, it is hard for me to remember that you are ONLY 3!
You are a sweet sweet little boy our dear Maddox and we are so thankful that the Lord blessed our lives with you and chose us to be your parents! I pray you come to know, love and serve our Lord at a very early age. I pray you grow strong, smart and compassionate. I pray you and your brother have an unbreakable bond and friendship and I pray the relationship you have with your daddy grows stronger and stronger everyday. I pray that you will remain my baby boy forever!
